Statement of District Attorney Madeline Singas on the Fifth Anniversary of the Sandy Hook Massacre

transparent seal

“In the five years since 20 children and six brave women were senselessly murdered by a madman with a gun at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Congress has taken no meaningful action to prevent these horrific tragedies. We must honor the memories of these children and the thousands of other victims of gun violence by pressing Congress to pass common sense laws to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill and domestic abusers, to ban devices of mass murder like bump stocks, and to prevent passage of the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which would allow guns to flood onto New York’s streets. Congressional inaction has already cost far too many lives, and Americans must be unrelenting in our efforts to protect our families, friends, and neighbors from the horrors of gun violence.”
