Hempstead Man Sentenced to Prison for 2012 Slaying of Acquaintance

MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced the prison sentence of Bruny Fenelon, a 32-year-old West Hempstead resident who was convicted of killing an acquaintance during an argument in 2012. Nassau County Court Judge Tammy Robbins sentenced Fenelon to 20 years to life in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision. Fenelon was found guilty of Murder in the Second Degree (an A2 Felony) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree (a D Felony) by a jury in Dec. 2013, after which he changed attorneys and unsuccessfully sought to vacate his conviction. “The brutal and gratuitous violence of this attack showed that this defendant had no mercy for his victim,” DA Rice said. “His efforts to delay being held accountable showed no respect for Mr. Rambaran’s family, but now he will pay for his crimes for a very significant amount of time.” DA Rice said that on Aug. 2, 2012, Fenelon and 39-year-old West Hempstead acquaintance Michael Rambaran were outside that area’s National Wholesale Liquidators when an argument turned into a physical altercation in which Fenelon pushed Rambaran to the ground, then punched, kicked and stomped on his head before breaking at least one glass bottle on his head as well. Rambaran was pronounced dead at the scene. Fenelon, who had fled the scene on foot after witnesses called 911, was arrested at his home by police later that night. ADA Melissa Lewis, Deputy Chief of DA Rice’s County Court Trial Bureau, is prosecuting the case. Fenelon is represented by Gregory Grizopoulos, Esq.
