MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced that a Long Beach man was arraigned on manslaughter and other charges stemming from a motorcycle crash that killed a pedestrian in Rockville Centre in March 2022.

Christopher Flores, 27, was arraigned today before Judge Caryn Fink on charges of Manslaughter in the Second Degree (a C felony); Vehicular Manslaughter in the First Degree (a C felony); Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree (a D felony); Assault in the Second Degree (a D violent felony); Driving While Ability Impaired by the Combined Influence of Alcohol and Drugs as a Felony (an E felony); Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol as a Felony (an E felony); Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree (an A misdemeanor); and Reckless Driving (an unclassified misdemeanor). The defendant pleaded not guilty and was released to pre-trial services. He is due back in court May 30, 2023. If convicted, the defendant faces up to five to 15 years in prison.

“Scott Brower was walking home after meeting a friend for drinks in celebration of Rockville Centre’s Irish Day when he was struck by the defendant who was allegedly driving his motorcycle while under the influence of drugs and alcohol,” said DA Donnelly. “Despite making the responsible choice, Scott never made it home that night and later died. NCDA will vigorously prosecute individuals who ignore our laws and endanger pedestrians and fellow motorists.”

DA Donnelly said that, according to the charges, on March 19, 2022, at approximately 11:53 p.m. victim Scott Brower was crossing Merrick Road at South Forest Avenue in a crosswalk when he was allegedly struck by Flores driving a 2020 BMW motorcycle eastbound on Merrick Road at a high rate of speed while allegedly intoxicated and high.

Flores was thrown from the motorcycle, which crashed into another vehicle before finally coming to rest.

Brower was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at 1:40 a.m.

The defendant also suffered significant physical injuries and was transported to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital in Oceanside for treatment.

He was arrested by members of the Nassau County Police Department on March 20, 2022.

Deputy Bureau Chief Stephanie Dellinger of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau is prosecuting the case. The defendant is represented by Dennis Lemke, Esq.

The charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless found guilty.
