Shaun Teemer was also arraigned today in a 2021 hit-and-run in Long Beach that severely injured a 74-year-old woman
MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced that a Long Beach man was arraigned today for the March 2022 shooting death of an Uber driver in Long Beach, and separately for a hit-and-run that occurred in September 2021 that left a 74-year-old woman seriously injured.
Shaun Teemer, 23, was arraigned before Judge Robert Bogle on charges including Murder in the Second Degree (an A-I felony); and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (a C violent felony). The defendant pleaded not guilty and was remanded. Teemer is due back in court on August 30, 2022. If convicted, the defendant faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
Teemer was also arraigned today for a separate September 3, 2021, incident on charges of Leaving the Scene of an Incident without Reporting as a Felony (an E felony) and Tampering with Physical Evidence (an E felony). The defendant pleaded not guilty, and bail was set at $5000 cash, $20,000 bond, and $50,000 partially secured bond. Teemer is also due back in court on these charges on August 30, 2022. If convicted, the defendant faces up to four years in prison.
“After an apparent argument, Shaun Teemer allegedly shot 37-year-old Humberto Manuel Francis-Hernandez in the head and left him for dead. Heartbreakingly, Humberto died several days later in the hospital,” said DA Donnelly. “Just six months earlier, Teemer allegedly struck and seriously injured a 74-year-old woman leaving a supermarket and never stopped. These horrific crimes are the very definition of senseless violence, and my office is committed to ensuring accountability for the victims and their families.”
DA Donnelly said that, according to the charges, on March 19, 2022, at approximately 2:24 a.m., the Long Beach Police Department received a 911 call for shots fired in the vicinity of 425 East Broadway in Long Beach.
When they arrived at the scene, police found a dark colored sedan idling in the roadway with the trunk and front driver’s side door open.
As they approached the front door of 425 East Broadway, they discovered 37-year-old Humberto Manuel Francis-Hernandez with gunshot wounds to the head and arm, and multiple shell casings inside the vestibule.
Francis-Hernandez was taken to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital in serious condition and went directly into surgery. His condition deteriorated after the surgery, and he was pronounced deceased on March 23, 2022.
The investigation revealed that the deceased was employed by Uber and was allegedly picking up a rider in Long Beach at the time of the shooting. Shaun Teemer was identified as the alleged shooter through various cell phone and other records requested as part of the investigation.
Teemer was arrested by members of the Nassau County Police Department’s Homicide Squad and the Long Beach Police Department on June 13, 2022, in Long Beach.
In the other prosecution, DA Donnelly said that, according to the charges, Teemer was operating a rented 2020 Jeep Compass on E. Park Avenue at the intersection of Pacific Avenue when he allegedly struck a 74-year-old woman crossing southbound just past the pedestrian crosswalk on E. Park Avenue and damaged the rental vehicle’s passenger side view mirror. The defendant allegedly continued driving after he hit the victim and did not stop.
The victim suffered a large laceration to her forehead and a compound fracture to her leg. She was taken to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital where she subsequently required surgery.
Teemer allegedly returned the damaged rental car after the incident and requested a replacement vehicle. The defendant allegedly told the manager that the vehicle’s passenger side view mirror was damaged by a basketball.
Teemer was arrested by members of the Long Beach Police Department on September 7, 2021, in Long Beach.
The homicide case is being prosecuted by Deputy Bureau Chief Daryl Levy of the Homicide Bureau. The vehicular case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Brooke Salvatore and Assistant District Attorney Brianna Ryan of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau. The defendant is represented by Cheryl Bartow, Esq.
The charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless found guilty.
