MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that a Roosevelt man pleaded guilty today to the brutal rape and assault of a woman in Freeport in September 2018.
Ever Martinez-Reyes, 25, pleaded guilty today to two counts of Rape in the First Degree (a B violent felony), two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree (a D violent felony) and four counts of Assault in the Second Degree (a D violent felony) before Judge Teresa Corrigan. The defendant is expected to be sentenced to 20 years in prison and 20 years of post-release supervision on November 19. As part of the plea, he must also register as a sex offender at the time of his release from prison.
“The defendant ruthlessly preyed upon a woman walking home at night and sexually assaulted her,” DA Singas said. “Today, this incredibly brave survivor heard her defendant admit in open court to this brutal assault. Her courage to not only fend off her attacker but to also face her accuser in court cannot be understated. I commend her, our prosecutors and our partners in the Nassau County Police and Freeport Police Departments for bringing this defendant to justice.”
DA Singas said that on September 28, 2018, at approximately 2 a.m., the defendant followed the victim down a Freeport street, struck her in the face and rendered her unconscious. The defendant then dragged the woman to the side of a lawn and repeatedly punched and kicked her about the face. While the victim was unconscious the defendant sexually assaulted her. The attack ended when the woman regained consciousness and fought off her assailant.
The defendant was arrested on October 5, 2018 by members of the Nassau County Police Department. The Freeport Police Department assisted in the investigation.
Senior Litigation Counsel Emma Slane of DA Singas’ Special Victims Bureau is prosecuting this case. Joseph Lo Piccolo, Esq. represents the defendant.
The survivor extends her personal thanks to the Freeport Police Department, the Nassau County Police Department’s First Squad, the NCPD Special Victims Squad, Detectives Antonio Ramos and Alfredo Rodriquez, and the NCDA, for their work on this case.
