MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced a Baldwin man has pleaded guilty to murder for the November 2016 bludgeoning death of a woman in Baldwin.

Raphael Oyague, 37, pleaded guilty yesterday before Judge Felice Muraca to Murder in the Second Degree (an A-I felony). The defendant is due back in court on June 29 and is expected to be sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.

“A young woman’s life was tragically brought to an end when this defendant savagely attacked her with a hammer, striking her all over her body,” DA Singas said. “I thank our prosecutors and our partners in the police department for bringing this violent defendant to justice.”

DA Singas said on November 23, 2016, at approximately 12:40 p.m. a woman’s body was discovered by two delivery workers in the parking lot of 2417 Grand Avenue in Baldwin. During the crime scene investigation, members of the Nassau County Police Department tracked a trail of blood from where the body was found to the back door of Oyague’s apartment at the same address. The defendant was located at the scene covered in blood.

It was later determined that the defendant killed the victim the night before at approximately 10:00 p.m. by striking her multiple times on her head and torso with a hammer.

Deputy Chief Everett Witherell of DA Singas’ Major Offense Bureau is prosecuting this case. The defendant is represented by Alan Schwartz, Esq.
